I love grackles--sure, they are loud and brazen creatures, but the colors of the male plumage are captivating and vibrant in the sunlight. Can you see purples, greens, and blues? And those yellow eyeballs! Plus, they are fun to watch with their crazy rituals. How can you not love these birds? It's difficult to capture their iridescence, but I think I've captured some of their flair by putting them on loud backgrounds.
Each background is a monotype--a one-of-kind, hand-pulled print using acrylic paint. The grackle is a woodcut that I've hand printed and then collaged on top of the background. Each piece is created on a cradled 8x8" wood panel that's 3/4" deep and signed on the back.
